Zari or Badla is a metallic thread that is wrapped over cotton threads to avoid breakage. Initially, this metallic yarn was formed from real gold and silver but now, they are made from cotton thread over metallic thread that can be plated in any color. These threads are mainly used in haute couture embroidery; but earlier were used in embellishments of royal attire. Zardosi gives attires a look and feel of golden coloured plating. This gold yarn can be used for both machine and hand embroidery. Zari work is resistant, durable and light in weight. This gold yarn used in zari work is non-tarnishing and it maintains lustre for quite a long period of time. The culture of using Zari started during the Mughal era in India and the practice continues till date. Shop online for Zari Thread only on The Design Cart.
